Lucky 13

So, What is this thing?? As we said on the HOME PAGE,
Every October right before Columbus day the is a Lucky 13.
What is that you ask?
The Lucky 13 is a party.
AND, of course, a golf tournament over a bunch of mowed fairways and crop circles over hills that, with a little imagination, becomes a redneck ad-hoc golf course over 27 acres called “Scottsland on Hughesville.”
13 Holes.... Maybe.... Depends.
Anyway, we blast music out on the green, and enjoy the day as our beverage truck(s) follow us around the course. Yes, there is a trophy for the winner. The course is mowed, but rough & challenging. Luckily, the holes are larger to compensate (flower pots sunk in the ground). Spectators are welcome and may enjoy many non-golf festivities like corn hole, photo booth, horseshoes, etc... or, just wander around the course with a good buzz on — we're not your judge. You could and sample (good) wines from our cellar at Nancy's Whine Bar. Of course there will be some sort of special wine tasting and we'll all eat our famous Low Country Boil when done. They'll be cigars and guitars around the fire-pit. Might be a dance party. Who knows. There will be local transportation for those who are "into the sherry." We care for our guests.
Oh, and Funny Hats, Kilts and Muttonchops are optional for golfing. (Colorful dress is always appreciated).
Generally, the Golfers start in the morning. This year, it will start at 12:00 pm. (Weather-permitting).
We have music all day. Spectators and other folks generally show up when the want to and we will have fried chicken and other food about. There is usually a guided wine tasting or some other crafts going on. Corn-hole, horseshoes, badminton, etc...

About 5:00 we do a Low County Boil and eat and drink, & announce the winners.
Mayhem ensues. Until late. Very late. I don't remember how late. It's all a fuzzy after 2:00 am.

The Course(may be different)
Below is the basic layout. It may change in September during mowing. Updates will be noted here.
Hole 1 - “Hay Bales” About 150 yards — Par 3 — Transverses a rolling hill over to the hay bales.
Hole 2 - “Walnut Alley” About 120 yards — Par 3 — Got to hit between two walnut trees to reach the green. Which is under another walnut tree.
Hole 3 - “Front Yard Hop” About 80 yards — Par 3 — Downhill, pretty much a straight shot.
Hole 4 - “Don't Hit The House” About 120 yards — Par 4 — Very thin “fairway” — Lots of Trees and other obstacles.
Hole 5 - “Ker-Plunk 1” About 150 yards as the crow flies — Par 3 — shooting down hill over water.
Hole 6 - “Corner Pocket” About 120 yards — Par 3 — Down to the low spot in the corner.
Hole 7 - “To the Top” About 150 yards — Par 3 — Shooting up a hill. Then you must drag your clubs up like Sisyphus pushing the rock.
Hole 8 - “Look out Below!” About 230 yards — Par 4 — Best mountain view. Longest Run. Skinniest fairway.
Hole 9 - “Time for a Beer” About 120 yards — Par 3 — You have walk BACK up the hill......
Hole 10 - “The Abyss” About 150 yards — Par 4 — You have to walk down through the woods to a low spot.
You then have to dog-leg around a tree and are surrounded by woods.
Hole 11 - “Deer Stand” - About 150 yards — Par 4 — Read the above, just backwards.
Hole 12 - “Back to the Future” About 80 yards — Par 3 — Hopping from one familiar hill to another.
Hole 13 - “Ker-Plunk 2” About 150 yards — Par 4 — Going uphill with a tree hazard from the pond trees. Green is behind a Fir tree.
CORPORATE EVENTS

The Rules
-
Tee Areas: You can move your ball around in the general Tee-off areas. I guess no more than 6 feet from the "center" of the designated area.
-
Breakfast ball: All players are allowed to hit two shots off the first tee, just to get the joints moving. We're old.
-
Do Overs: Take one mulligan per nine holes and use it for any shot on the course, including putts. (You have one extra after hole 9 ).
-
Out of bounds: Unless you want to risk the poison ivy, play it like a hazard and drop close to where it went out with a one-stroke penalty. (I would play conservative, or you get the Itchy-Scratchy).
-
Get a good lie: Players can move the ball (with hands, feet or a club) within a grip-length ... anywhere on the course. God knows how bumpy it may be. Or, maybe he doesn't. I'm not sure he plays golf.
-
Max putting: There's no need to physically putt four times if you are within 20 feet of the hole. If it's not in after four, it's good on five. The greens will be rough — BUT I'M MAKING THE HOLES LARGER TO COMPENSATE.
-
Approximate drops: Close enough is good enough for any necessary drop, so two lengths is about right.
-
Max Strokes: You should still play until someone wins the hole no matter what the score. Let's say Max is Par plus 5, or the winner's score plus par, Whichever is greater.
-
Lost your Balls?: I would bring plenty of balls. You'll lose' em. I wouldn't spend more that 5 minutes looking for a lost ball. Once it's deemed lost, drop within two club lengths or so and move on.
-
Again: Areas outside of mowed areas may have lots of poison ivy.
-
PENALTIES: All penalties should be one stroke, including out of bounds, water and lateral hazards, lost ball and an unplayable lie. Drop a ball near where the original was lost and play on.
-
This ain't the PGA. (Frankly I'm not sure what this is). HAVE FUN.
